Need an ESA Letter for Housing?

An ESA letter from a licensed healthcare professional may help you request a reasonable accommodation in housing covered by the Fair Housing Act. The letter confirms that you have a disability-related need for an emotional support animal. When your disability or need for an ESA is not obvious, a housing provider may ask for reliable supporting documentation before approving your request.

An ESA letter does not give your animal public-access rights in stores, restaurants, or other businesses.
